Jamie Waddell is a dynamic, knowledgeable, motivational, and organized Education/Reading Specialist, with eighteen years of experience working with students with mild/moderate disabilities. She is Orton-Gillingham trained and uses this training to develop strong and confident readers. She is skilled at developing partnerships with colleagues, administrators and parents, in order to give each student the most successful educational experience. She successfully delivers curriculum and interventions in both one-on-one lessons and group learning environments and assesses students with diagnostic instruments such as the Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Achievement, Diagnostic Assessment of Reading, Dynamic Indicators of Early Reading Literacy Skills, DIBELS, and iReady.
Jamie is also an expert in teaching social skills groups and successfully improving student participation in the classroom and online through positive reinforcement and reward systems. She is a master at developing visual schedules, and with identifying target behaviors, determining replacement behaviors, and creating behavior support plans to improve student behavior.
Jamie has been instrumental in improving hundreds of students’ reading fluency scores as evidenced by their DIBELS scores, their reading comprehension ability as proven by their iReady scores and raising their overall academic scores via the CAASSP. All this is possible through targeted reading, writing, and mathematics evidenced based interventions.
Master of Arts in Special Education: advanced experience with working, assessing, and providing therapy to students with mild/moderate disabilities. Jamie is well-versed and experienced with the educational, psychological, and political issues that arise when developing collaborative relationships with families, general educators, and other professionals. She has extensive knowledge in the development of materials, strategies, and skills to work with families, including the culturally and linguistically diverse.
Education Specialist Level 1 and Level 2, Mild/Moderate Teaching Credential: authorizes Jamie to conduct assessments, provide instruction, and special education related services to individuals with a primary disability of specific learning disabilities, mild/moderate intellectual disability, other health impairment, emotional disturbance, and autism spectrum disorders within the disability area, in kindergarten, grades 1 through 12, and classes organized primarily for adults in services across the continuum of program options available.
Autism Authorization:
Authorizes Jamie to conduct assessments and provide instruction and special education related services to individuals with a primary disability of Autism.
Cross Cultural Language and Academic Development Certificate:
An authorization to provide specialized instruction to students for whom English is a second language.
